Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Open the TAP app and complete the onboarding process.
  2. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard.
  3. Select TAP from the list.
  4. Tap TAP again and enable Allow Full Access (required for voice processing).
  5. Switch to the TAP keyboard in any app by tapping the globe icon on your keyboard.
Full Access is required so the keyboard extension can communicate with the main app for voice recognition and AI text processing. Without it, the keyboard cannot access the microphone or process your speech. TAP does not use Full Access to collect your keystrokes or personal data — all communication happens locally on your device through secure shared storage.
Quick switch: Tap the language button on the keyboard to toggle between your two most used languages (default: Chinese and English).

All languages: Long-press the language button to open the language picker, where you can select from all supported languages.
Tap the translate button on the keyboard to enable real-time translation. Speak in your current language, and the AI will translate and polish the output into your target language. Tap the translate button again to turn translation off. The translation target can be changed by long-pressing the translate button.
Audio is never stored or uploaded. Speech recognition happens entirely on your device. After your speech is converted to text, the text may be sent to a third-party AI service for polishing (if enabled). The audio itself is discarded immediately. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
AI text processing requires an API key to be configured. Check the following:
  1. Open the TAP app and go to Settings.
  2. Ensure your API key is entered correctly.
  3. Make sure you have an active internet connection.
  4. If the issue persists, try removing and re-entering your API key.
Without an API key, TAP will still transcribe your speech but won't apply AI polishing.
The Personal Dictionary lets you add proper nouns, brand names, technical terms, and other words that the AI might not recognize correctly. When these words appear in your speech, the AI will use the correct spelling and formatting you've specified. You can manage your dictionary from the Dictionary tab in the app.
Go to Settings in the TAP app and select your preferred tone: Adaptive (auto-adjusts based on context), Formal, Casual, Professional, or Friendly. The AI will adjust its polishing style accordingly.
Speech recognition works on-device and does not require internet. However, the AI text polishing feature requires an internet connection to communicate with the AI service. Without internet, TAP will transcribe your speech as-is without AI enhancement.
Open the History tab in the TAP app. Swipe left on any entry to delete it individually. All history is stored locally on your device — uninstalling TAP removes all data permanently.

Troubleshooting

🎤 Microphone not working
  1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and ensure TAP is enabled.
  2. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Speech Recognition and ensure TAP is enabled.
  3. Make sure no other app is actively using the microphone.
  4. Try closing and reopening the TAP app.
⌨️ Keyboard not appearing
  1. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards.
  2. Check that TAP is listed. If not, tap Add New Keyboard and select TAP.
  3. Ensure Allow Full Access is turned on for TAP.
  4. Restart your device if the keyboard still doesn't appear.
🔇 No text being recognized
  1. Open the TAP main app at least once — this activates the background voice service.
  2. Speak clearly and at a normal pace.
  3. Check that you've selected the correct language for your speech.
  4. Ensure you're not in an extremely noisy environment.
🐌 AI processing is slow
AI processing speed depends on your internet connection and the AI service's response time. Try switching to a faster network (Wi-Fi instead of cellular). If the issue persists, the AI service may be experiencing high load — wait a moment and try again.
